Tenant Advocacy: Services for Landlord-Tenant Board Matters

Question: What legal rights do residential tenants have in Ontario?

Answer:   Residential tenants in Ontario have various rights under the Residential Tenancies Act, [R.S.O. 2006, c. 17], which include the right to adequate maintenance, protection from unlawful eviction, and privacy in their rental units.  Access Ontario Legal Services is dedicated to helping tenants navigate these rights and resolve disputes with landlords, ensuring that their living conditions remain safe and fair.

Legal Rights and Duties Affecting Residential Tenants

Tenant Advocacy: Services for Landlord-Tenant Board MattersTo a tenant, a rental dwelling is home. Of course, home means something unique to everyone and these special feelings are recognized. With this said, Access Ontario Legal Services also recognizes that impartial empathy is often necessary to remain focused upon the legal issues and to remain an objective advisor and negotiator. Access Ontario Legal Services helps tenants to resolve disputes by first reviewing the facts and issues and then by working to negotiate a resolution with the landlord. If resolution is evasive, Access Ontario Legal Services can prepare the required Landlord Tenant Board forms and advocate at Landlord Tenant Board hearings.
